Industrial Forklift (Beginners)

The course is suitable for:- this course is designed for those with limited or no driving experience (including tractors) who will be required to operate an industrial masted lift truck for the first time and to handle pallets, boxes, stillages etc.

Duration: Four days

Maximum trainees: 3

Course Objectives: At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • State the reasons for operator training and understand the causes of lift truck instability and accidents
  • State the responsibilities of operators to themselves and others including their legal duties
  • Identify all the controls and state their functions; state the ratings of the truck and define de-rating
  • State how load centres are calculated for the truck; carry out the daily or take-over checks, complying with legal duties, before operating and state the parts of a lift truck requiring particular attention
  • Safely start up and manoeuvre the truck in open and confined spaces; correctly pick up and put down empty and loaded pallets or unit loads at different heights; understand and carry out "undercutting" correctly and both load and unload lorries or trailers
  • Safely park and stop truck at end of operating

Industrial Forklift (Experienced)

The course is suitable for:- This course is designed for those who are experienced operators of industrial masted lift trucks and require training for an assessment and Certificate of Basic Training.

Duration: 2 days

Maximum trainees: 3

Course Objectives: At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • State the reasons for operator training and understand the causes of lift truck instability and accidents
  • State the responsibilities of operators to themselves and others including their legal duties
  • Identify all the controls and state their functions; state the ratings of the truck and define de-rating
  • State how load centres are calculated for the truck; carry out the daily or take-over checks, complying with legal duties, before operating and state the parts of a lift truck requiring particular attention
  • Safely start up and manoeuvre the truck in open and confined confined spaces; correctly pick up and put down empty and loaded pallets or unit loads at different heights; understand and carry out "undercutting" correctly and both load and unload lorries or trailers
  • Safely park and stop truck at end of operating

Rough Terrain Telescopic Lift Trucks

The course is suitable for:- This course is designed for skilled and experienced tractor drivers, who will be required to operate a rough terrain telescopic lift truck for the first time. The course is also suitable for rough terrain telescopic lift truck operators with limited experience and who have had no formal training or certification.

Duration: 3 days

Maximum trainees: 3

Course Objectives: At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • State the reasons for operator training and understand the causes of lift truck instability and accidents
  • State the responsibilities of operators to themselves and others including their legal duties
  • Identify all the controls and state their functions; state the ratings of the truck and define de-rating
  • State how load centres are calculated for the truck; carry out the daily or take-over checks, complying with legal duties, before operating and state the parts of a lift truck requiring particular attention
  • Safely start up and manoeuvre the truck in open and confined spaces; correctly pick up and put down empty and loaded pallets or unit loads at different heights; understand and carry out "undercutting" correctly and both load and unload lorries or trailers; prepare the truck for road use and safely drive on a public highway with and without a load and/or trailer. Safely park and stop truck at end of operating
  • Select traction aids and operate correctly over wet and/or rough ground with loaded pallets/attachments
  • Prepare the truck for safe use on the public highway and be aware of the associated hazards
  • Select, fit and detach attachments for bulk materials and operate to load and unload the bulk material safely

Lift Truck Refresher Training

The course is suitable for:- This course is designed for those who already hold a Certificate of Basic Training, or have employers authorisation, but need refresher training or familiarisation.

Duration: 1 day

Maximum trainees: 6

Course Objectives: At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • State the causes of lift truck accidents and state the responsibilities to themselves and others including their Duties under sections 7 and 8 of the Health and Safety at Work Act
  • State the causes of instability and be able to demonstrate an understanding of a truck's rated capacity
  • Show an understanding and familiarity with the controls and instruments and in accordance with acceptable operating procedures demonstrate safe practice
  • Carry out the daily or take over maintenance recommended for the truck and maintain a record of faults
